It should be noted that all of the images in the gallery are artist concepts. We have no images of exoplanet surfaces beyond a few pixels of light, so we pair our scientists with artists to create images based on what we do know. exoplanets.nasa.gov/news/1605/…

In Australia, plentiful rainfall set the stage for prescribed burning to begin. Though the fires were planned, winds can still carry the smoke far from the source.

NASA’s Aqua satellite captured the trailing smoke from space on April 23, 2023. go.nasa.gov/40DOblz

How long will it take for some conspiracy theorist to say this is "proof" that moon landings and other scientific endeavors are fake?

.@YellowstoneNPS is famous for its geysers - as is Saturn’s moon Enceladus! A team from @NASAGoddard visited the park in the winter of 2019 to see if they could detect microbial life within the geysers and the surrounding icy surface.

"Whew! That's what I call a thrill." –Apollo 16 astronaut Ken Mattingly

Travelling at more than 11,000 m/s (36,000 ft/s) as the Apollo 16 spacecraft entered the atmosphere, its heat shield reached 2200–2480°C (4000–4500°F) and the crew pulled 7 Gs before its parachutes deployed.

What would you do to study snow? ❄️

For @nasa SnowEx scientists, the answer is quite a lot! During their campaign in March 2023, the team snowmobiled and snowshoed across Alaska to study snow and learn how to better study it from the ground, air, and, one day, from space.

What are these marks in the ice? 🤔

On March 13, 2023, #Landsat 9 took these images of Tunulliarfik Fjord in Greenland. At the time, the fjord’s waters were capped with a layer of sea ice. 🌊🧊 go.nasa.gov/3V4P0m6
#NASAEarth

Some of the lines connect the towns of Qassiarsuk (left) and Narsarsuaq (right), which are about 4 kilometers (2.5 miles) apart across the fjord.

@NASAGoddard ice scientists believe these lines and loops were likely produced by humans on snowmobiles.
#NASAEarth

🧊 However, some of the “lines” in this image have more variation.

“These look like natural ice deformation features, most likely cracks or ridging due to tidal motion,” said @nasagoddard cryospheric scientist Nathan Kurtz.
