With our most recent update, creating and editing lists has never been easier in the #Mastodon web app. Lists allow you to declutter your home feed by organizing accounts into arbitrary alternative feeds. And there is some other stuff we may be working on to make this feature even more powerful...
in reply to Eugen Rochko

Last I used this feature (years ago now) I had to follow the account to add them to a List. Is that still the case?

"ICE cannot enter your home unless they have a warrant signed by a judge ... Most of the time ICE agents will only have warrants signed by ICE officers, and those warrants do not give them permission to enter your home.

If they say they have a warrant, ask them to slip it under the door. If you open the door, you are giving them permission to enter your home. This is why it is important to keep your door closed during the entire interaction with ICE."

A little late to the party, but learning screen command is rocking my world right now. Simple "screen -L -S sessionname" creates persistent session with logging for notes.

When juggling around multiple remote machines for data crunching, terminal multiplexer like this seems essential.

A deeply personal piece by my wife Ayesha and I about the hell insurance companies have put us through to get the life saving care our daughter needs to live.

We're sharing because her story is sadly all too common. I have a platform & I intend to use it:

This idea keeps sticking with me—that we have just seen a transformation in US national politics, from "campaign finance" to "campaign financialization," from funding campaigns to campaigns as vehicles for explicit investment and speculation. nathanschneider.info/2024/11/t…

Does this seem right?

FDA Pulling the Plug on Red 3: The Ugly Truth About Food Dyes Finally Exposed

It's already banned in cosmetics because it can cause allergic reactions... but the links with Cancer, Thyroid Issues and possibly ADHD are leading to this decision.

Takes them forever to fix these things!

Those of us with celiac disease are still lobbying for barley to appear on food label allergy lists - it's used in anything "malted" - including most candy - and contains gluten... but only wheat has to be declared.

Gah. Deleted my comment. I'm being too negative. Sorry.

We need to be able to trust people. We do not live in a society conducive to trust. Capitalism, as practised, erodes trust.

As a couple folks have noted, Basile Bouchon invented the punched paper tape as a way to control the action of a loom in 1725. Eventually, the punched card would become a crucial tool for data processing. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Punched_…

I’m working on a proposal for a small exhibition on the anniversary that brings the weaving history and computer history together. I probably won’t have room (because it’s so large) but we have a fascinating manuscript we think was created by a student or apprentice to demonstrate his mastery of the principles. id.lib.harvard.edu/alma/991565…

Scientific American delivers a scathing article about the theologists holding the majority in the US Supreme Court. It’s so good, and so tightly written, that it’s difficult to pull an excerpt without wanting to also include the lead in and follow up. I’ll tempt you with some opening paragraphs, but the article is brilliant and deserves to be read.

“In five instances, Justice Neil Gorsuch’s opinion confused nitrogen oxide, a pollutant that contributes to ozone formation, with nitrous oxide, better known as laughing gas.

You can’t make this stuff up. This repeated mistake in the 5–4 decision exemplifies a high court not just indifferent to facts but contemptuous of them.”

But to be honest, I haven't memorized how punctuation works in English as my studying process wasn't focused on that
