I mean, while it's an uneven swap, I think I remember talks of this swap being a thing a while back, and sure, what she got arrested for wasn't right in a general sense, but she often traveled abroad and let's be real, marijuana is pretty illegal in a lot of countries. Canada and some US states are the anomaly not the rule.

She 100% should have checked up on everything before making such a trip, especially at a time of such heightened tensions. It's not that I think the law is right, but she did take a very silly risk and paid for it by doing that, it's carelessness on her part, and I'd say she's very fortunate that the US did agree to swap for her, somebody less famous probably wouldn't have been so fortunate. Though I think Bout would have been released fairly soon regardless which is probably why they did it
