The increased oversight by conservative extremists of what books librarians can order for school libraries (i.e. cracking down on materials about gender, sexuality, race, and racism) is genuine Nazi behavior. https://www.washingtonpost.com/education/2023/01/22/students-want-new-books-thanks-restrictions-librarians-cant-buy-them/

This is an absolutely heartbreaking story.

"On her desk, the librarian keeps three pages of paper that students have covered with the scrawled titles they’d like to read, if only she could order them."

conservative extremists #Republican #Nazis banning books doesn't surprise me. What's surprising is the fact that everyone is talking but no one is doing anything about it.

Last night on German TV I watched a documentary of the NSDAP takeover of the country in 1933, based on the diaries of normal people on both sides: Nurses, doctors, workers, journalists, trade unionists, embassy workers and more. There are differences, but the strategy parallels and the accelerating drip-drip-drip of how resistance is worn away, those are truly terrifying.
