It's about time to try #yearCompass

I tried last year but didn't finish
What I did to was fruitful though
All my friends who I recommended it to enjoyed it too
It takes awhile, so it helps to start early
Year compass helps you reflect and close out your year and prepare for the next

To start, reflecting on 2022:
1. What went right?
2. What unexpectedly went right?
3. What goals deserved to be picked up on in 2023?
I think the question about what's unexpected is so good! I like to ask this during my facilitation or project work too. There are a lot of times things happen that are unexpected and noticing them is important to incorporating them to a shift in my worldview and growth.
The last question is an interesting framing as well: what *deserves* to be picked up on, like what has been neglected this past year that is important for you to center in your next?

I know, personally, my entire academic career would have been different. What from that time are you happy to leave behind? What from that time do you want to bring back?
- Write your goals down. Bring them into physical space. I'd add to consider additional rituals that bring meaning to your life too.
- Your goals can change and be refined. Start with a brain dump, identify themes, break down what feels feasible, what resonates with you know vs. a later you, etc. in line with your reflections from the past year.

1. When do you work best?
2. When are you least productive?
3. Is there a lull in opportunities during the year?
I don't always like to think about productivity but I think thinking about lulls is meaningful. Tbh in my head, there are times where I think there are no lulls, but there are definitely times that are very busy!!

- share you goals with your loved ones (this one is so hard 😛 and may lead to you reevaluating your friendships). being upfront with your goals can help with transparency, intention, and presence in the relationship. you should feel m... show more

- give yourself buffer time before and after event to wind up and wind down for it. (this is a me one)

1. how do you measure a victory/accomplished a goal (again think about freebies too!)? What does it take for you to be satisifed?
2. How do you celebrate afterwards?
3. Take note of what worked, what didn't, what adjustments were made in the process
4. How does a victory impact the goals for the year? How does it contribute to your momentum?
5. Do you have a defined time or cycle during the year when you re-revaluate?
