Looks like @arstechnica is now verified on here! Always great to see this feature used. It'll be even more prominent in the future.

1. Immediately following
2. I still don't know why my *website* won't get verified, but the blog page works :/

That’s great to see. Self-verified with link verification. I looked and found this syntax on their home page.

<link rel="me" href="https://mastodon.social/@arstechnica">

What’s the advantage of getting verified, as a #writer ? I tried to figure out how to do so a couple times, but unable to …

Following the "official" Ars Technica and unfollowing the bot account that served me well until they arrived.

Hello, @arstechnica!

And it’s great to see John Mastodon is hard on the job

in reply to Eugen Rochko

i've verfied my web snd github but cannot verify my Pixelfed account
in reply to Eugen Rochko

You need to simplify social media verification. Most people verify Twitch, Patreon, YouTube, Instagram. Check out how easy it is to verify social networks in Discord

rel="me" is too difficult for an ordinary user

in reply to Eugen Rochko

Maybe you should charge for this feature. I means, just to cover some expensives...
in reply to Eugen Rochko

That's good news. There was a bot doing a decent job, but great to have the real thing here (and verified!!!).
in reply to Eugen Rochko

A bit odd they’re on the mastodon.social site though - a techsite could do more to put the ‘fedi’ in fediverse
in reply to Eugen Rochko

what do you mean 'prominent'? Is something being developed?
in reply to Eugen Rochko

I love that this is an actual way to verify people or organisations, not just to verify that someone has a credit card... Not mentioning any names...
in reply to Eugen Rochko

@anildash Imposter: if only it were possible to create @arstechnica on another instance and verify it with a plausible domain, alas
in reply to Eugen Rochko

well I think anyone can impersonate by placing that rel='me'. Consider what if I just get myself a domain like thisiselonmusk.com and put rel=me there. Will I become Elon Musk?
in reply to Eugen Rochko

Verification remains very tricky to get working. Eventually it happened for our @okaphone account. But right now I'm struggling with this account.

The back link has been in place for about a day (before I tried). I've been clearing caches, logging out and in, modifying my setting in various ways, changing the URL, waiting, tried a-tag and link-tag... but sofar no luck.

Maybe you guys should do some testing on this important functionality and make it a bit more reliable. 🤔
