The wealthiest 10% are responsible for 1/2 of global CO2 emissions. https://www.independent.co.uk/climate-change/news/cop21-richest-10-per-cent-produce-half-the-world-s-co2-emissions-a6756511.html #climatechange

Also known as the "Duh" principle.

That's why they want us to think of literally anything else than climate.

This ☝️ right here is why everyone should refocus their energy from scolding each other over recycling, driving EVs, or biking, etc which just causes division and instead work together to elected people who will tax the hell out of rich people so we can use that money to fix the damn problems THEY caused

Despite some pretty good efforts: ASHP /low use old hybrid car / no fly / vegan diet / I fear that will still be me in the top brackets.

Whenever someone tells you that the climate crisis is a personal responsibility issue, show them this:

https://www.theguardian.com/sustainable-business/2017/jul/10/100-fossil-fuel-companies-investors-responsible-71-global-emissions-cdp-study-climate-change

The climate crisis is a billionaires crisis, a trillion-dollar corporations crisis, a capitalism crisis, a systemic inequality crisis.

The number of people who don't understand they're in that 10% is hilarious.

This is GLOBALLY, folks. If you're in the US and you make $50k annually, THIS IS YOU. You're in the top 2% globally.

It's a statement on the unfathomably wide gap between developed and developing countries.

Hi Sheril,

I believe you/others might be interested in a petition for radical reform of the UN 🇺🇳, which has been vocal, but sadly largely ineffective, when faced with 21st century challenges such as #ClimateChange.

If indeed you are interested, the petition is accessible via toot:

Do note that's the wealthiest 10% globally.

If you look up how much wealth it takes to be in the top 10% globally, it's roughly $40k - $100k USD.

$40k is by annual income and $100k is net worth. (Numbers rounded up slightly to be easier to remember)

My best guess is the starting point for being in the significant contributor to global warming class is do you own a car.

The next break is flying regularly.

Then it's private jets, then finally the absolute worst currently analyzed is traveling by superyacht.

"Why rich people use so much more energy

It’s mainly all the traveling, says a comprehensive new study."

This is relevant for three reasons.

1) It is true objectively

2) It is also true because most of us in North America cooperate with and enable capitalism and the satanic 1789 constitution that enables this evil.

3) Every single one of us are richer than the rest of the world due to Imperialism and Geography ajd have privilege that demands we stop Capitalism

No one is innocent if they live here.

No one.

in reply to Sheril Kirshenbaum

So if we ate the rich, that would get us to net zero twice as soon!
in reply to Sheril Kirshenbaum

that’s why when I hear CEOs saying we need to pollute less I reply with a giant FUCK YOU, I don’t even drive a car but even if I did it would touch a fraction of the emissions that a company the size of Amazon and target put out, if we wanna fix pollution we have to knee cap the corporations.
in reply to Sheril Kirshenbaum

Although I am not "rich", it is not serious to pose the problem in this way, besides, what are they going to do when the fossil fuels run out, then more than sure the rich will continue to be responsible...?!
