Lol @thelinuxEXP it’s your favourite type of comment. “I don’t think it is so it’s clickbait”
in reply to Liam @ GamingOnLinux 🐧🎮

I see a bit of hypocrisy here. "Just because you don't agree" with my definition of a major update, I will threaten to remove you from the channel.
I'm not saying "clickbait guy" was right, but yours looks like a harsh reaction to me.
in reply to Sweet_T

@IamSweetT i 100% refuse to deal with these types of people and won’t give them space to be dicks
in reply to Liam @ GamingOnLinux 🐧🎮

@IamSweetT I see your point; the user could have taken 30 seconds to write more than a three line attack comment, or simply unsubscribed themselves? A six line job calling out something specific could have started a dialogue or given you an epiphany about the content itself rather than provoking the response it got.
in reply to Liam @ GamingOnLinux 🐧🎮

Guarantee they have something in mind they were waiting for, got excited this might be it and instead of realizing that assumption was dumb they blame you.

big update to the software (version), but not a "big update" as-in big news or crazy features or whatever
in reply to Liam @ GamingOnLinux 🐧🎮

Every title is clickbait, sort of. The question is, if it is misleading and have enough information?

But on the other hand, you don't have to agree on his opinion that its clickbait too! What I don't agree here is, how he lays it out, making it a bigger problem that it is and coming of so negatively. As comments like him tend to be inflammatory.

But I can kind of understand both sides of you.
in reply to Tuncay

@thingsiplay as I’ve said time and time again the only people that throw around the word “clickbait” are out for a fight, i have never been proven wrong on this running a Linux community and making content for over 13 years so i refuse to let them continue
in reply to Liam @ GamingOnLinux 🐧🎮

I am honest here and guilty as well, as I threw the term "clickbait" too. But after confrontation with the YouTube channel owners in the comment to talk about the issue, I started to think more about it and found out it was wrong.

But I can fully understand why you are fed up with this.

So I am not here to tell how you should handle such a situation, but think of people reading it who are not on a fight. And to be fair, you did well in the screenshot. At least to me
in reply to Liam @ GamingOnLinux 🐧🎮

@thingsiplay
Tbh IMO click bait does not have to be misleading. It is just intentionally using a title that attracts clicks.

The only time clickbait is a problem, is when it is misleading.

People calling out a video for being clickbait are starting a meaningless argument.

I wouldn't call this clickbait:

Young adult white american male explaining how the desktop OS known as GNU/Linux came to have many distributions and why it is not that big of a deal

in reply to zbecker

@thingsiplay
This I would consider click bait

Linux Fragmentation isn't a problem! Here's Why!

If the video does exactly that then it isn't misleading.

I'm specifically targeting you with this, these are just generic titles for a common video that's made. But my point is, ofc it's clickbait. It has to be due to the #YouTube #algorithm. But also, its often shorter

People calling clickbait are just adding engagement to your video.

in reply to zbecker

@zbecker @thingsiplay i really don’t care for this discussion, it’s not engagement i want and again the only people who say it want to cause problems
in reply to Liam @ GamingOnLinux 🐧🎮

I love that we’ve reached an era of online debate where whether or not the qualifier “big” applies to a software update can be a contentious issue. #thefutureisnow #itwassupposedtobeflyingcars
in reply to Liam @ GamingOnLinux 🐧🎮

people are going to be degrading and rude. Better to just ignore them than to give them the time of day. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
in reply to Liam @ GamingOnLinux 🐧🎮

And honestly, so what if it's clickbait? For most Youtubers, making videos is a job. Entitled people expect content creators to not make the best of a shitty algorithmic-driven platform, exchanging their much-needed income for a slightly higher quality title/better thumbnail. The unfortunate state of YT requires creators to clickbait to survive.
in reply to Liam @ GamingOnLinux 🐧🎮

to be fair, click bait is personal. If my interpretation of a title is one thing but the video is something else than that can be seen as clickbait, even though it was never intended as clickbait.

I have not seen this video yet, but I'd say from the version numbering it's a Major update, where big refers to a large amount of changes or impactful changes.

That said, I dont think one should comment about clickbait because it's personal
