Rolling. Never understood the reason for a standard release cycle.

- would like to see more rolling releases.. with Debian philosophy of extensive testing. Not bleeding edge , but keeping up to date without having to reinstall a new release

Rolling release, openSUSE Tumbleweed is just perfect for me.

Both. Fedora is semi-rolling, it's fixed but so close to upstream as makes no difference. If I need the latest GCC, it'll be there, but at the same time I can keep it fixed for VMs and max reproducibility. If I want true rolling, I'll switch using DNF to Rawhide.

a rolling release obviously for gaming, imagine gaming on debian server (without any DE)

rolling. Imo it's too much hassle to upgrade versions every few months. I usually find arch based distros on my laptop, and I've never had any issues with stability.

I don't have a preference since I switched to Universal Blue Bluefin. I can run any distro I want as a Distrobox container, and I have both fixed-release and rolling-release containers.

I use a Fedora atomic based distro. So I guess, I'm in the middle ground. I get all non major upgrades quickly, but wait 6 months for major upgrades.
in reply to It's FOSS

I would say, in between!
I like fixed LTS release for the stability, but I like distros that will distribute intermediate updates when mature. A fixed date is not always the solution.
in reply to It's FOSS

I prefer whichever is most stable and reliable, and right now that's a fixed release. I like the idea of a rolling release, but I don't want a middle of the night update to render my system unusable.

Rolling all the way! Why do I have to reformat my PC every 2 years ?!? There is a reason I left spydows for Linux.

I’d love a rolling release (been an arc/parabola user in the past), but I find it too risky as of now. I find Fedora to be the sweet spot right now.

@hankg You are getting the best of both worlds. 😃

I seem to be having better results with my rolling distro than I had with fixed.
... except for my server.

So the answer is, it depends on my use case.
The computer I keep on my workbench that goes long periods of time without use was also reverted back to a fixed release distro. Rolling kept getting too far out of date and then having issues updating.

It's one of the many things I love about Linux.

Windows, you get... Windows. Maybe a server edition.

Linux... Well, this distro sucks on my little laptop, but hey here's one aimed at low spec hardware. Oh here's one for my server!
Another that works well on that weird touchscreen device. One for my SBC!
Endless! Truly endless!

Windows is like the Model T... you can have any color you want, as long as it's black.

Linux is like that giant mega pack of crayons! You WILL find a color you like!

Yeah, I'm a roller with Gentoo. Surprisingly few issues, and I get feature updates much earlier.
