It's a cold blustery cloudy day in much of Aotearoa-NZ (it's hailing outside as I type this) so to brighten up your day here's a snowberry yellow moth.

I just uploaded my photo from 2023 to #iNaturalist as I work through my backlog. It's now the 29th observation on iNat of the species and will be the 33rd on GBIF once my ID is confirmed.

As the name suggests, the caterpillars of this pretty yellow moth eat NZ snowberries (Gaultheria species).

i would have naively expected for warmer weather this time of year. Is this typical?

@foaylward It’s been a wetter and chiller summer than average across much of the country.

@LyndaDelph @foaylward Yes, I think most of the country naively expected our summer to be a lot warmer and less wet than it’s been. Instead, the warmer oceans and more energy in the atmosphere seem to have been driven more summer storms our way.

@foaylward Absolutely sh**ty day here today in Kaikoura. But the snow does look lovely on the Seaward Kaikouras.

@LyndaDelph No fun - I rely on you all for beautiful summer pics during the northern winter!
