GNOME has the platform. The office suite is missing.

I do still use #Abiword and #Gnumeric, and while the latter is completely fine and functional even today for my needs, I'd be eager to see some big improvements for Abiword 😀

I disagree. I have used GNOME with Libreoffice and Onlyoffice and I prefer the latter. If they would add their own office suite and I don't care about it, it would just clutter my system.

If the only argument is "it doesn't look as neat like a GNOME integrated app", then the author should maybe look into MacOS instead. Walled garden all the way, but at least everything looks the same 😜

On the other hand: competition and choice are a good thing.

I can't agree more. Open LibreOffice Writer always feel like taking an elephant on the lead. Abiword feels like a fly in comparison.

However the question is money. As long as there's no financial backing nothing can happen. Let's hope the crazy geopolitics at the moment wakes people up from our over reliance on some companies who seem to support an administration, who antagonizes friends and destroys all trust we have.

I think it would be better to use the money that would be spent on that on Libreoffice or Onlyoffice directly

I think it's telling that both LibreOffice and ONLYOFFICE chose *not* to be GNOME applications.

I wish someone could create a fast, simple, and easy-to-use #Gnome office based on #LibreOffice Kit.
This doesn't seem to be complicated wiht #libreofficekit and has full access to all LibreOffice technology features.

Indeed, a simple #Gnome office suite on basis of #LibreOfficeKit is probably the lowest hanging fruit to create an office suite. LibreOfficeKit is very powerful and is continuously further developed as it's the main engine of @collabora Online.
It has full document fidelity, so even if Gnome office would have few features, it would still be able to open/import/save/export/display all features. It's a pity that no one has tackled it yet.

I don't get it. I think that's a waste of resources. Why don't work on a better UI integration of #LibreOffice into #GNOME? LibreOffice is so customizable. The first thing I do after an installation is to make my toolbar simple and remove everything I don't need. I think it would be better to improve LibreOffice than build another office suite that hardly anybody uses in the end...
