Almost a month ago, the vet told me Happy, at 13.5yrs, was nearing liver failure. It was almost certainly cancer based on her bloodwork.

Here she is today, after many more vet visits, an overnight in the ER & 4 meds. Turns out it was a bacterial infection. She’s recovering & I highly recommend pet insurance.

I’m so grateful for more time with this very good girl. I also know that no matter how many years we’re fortunate to have w our dogs & cats, it’s never going to be enough. #DogsOfMastodon

we had a very similar thing happen with our 14yo dog - “definitely liver failure, look at these charts, only a few months left”. That was 18 months ago and the dog has been happy and fine for 16 of those months.

Aw! What a sweetie! I'm so glad she pulled through and that her prognosis wasn't what it was thought to be. 💜

Always get a second opinion!

A vet did a needle biopsy on an itchy area on my boy James's leg and then told me it was a very fast and aggressive cancer that needed to come off immediately. He excised a lot of flesh out of James' leg, requiring me to carry him up and down a steep flight of stairs for three weeks. Turned out it was a spider bite.

@Willie1foot We got an ultrasound elsewhere which showed no mass & then circled back to the vet. I don’t think he made a mistake as her lab results did look like it was cancer. But fortunately it turned out to be a more unexpected cause.

Yes, pet insurance. My lab rescue who eats everything ate some dental floss and eventually had to have 5 inches of intestine removed. This was a couple months ago. We didn't have pet insurance, and I really wish we had
