Linux was my entry to a broader world, there I could decide, what the computer should do.
After some experiments with Linux, the real journey started, when Half Live 2 didn't run on my Windows 98. I could have bought Windows XP. But I just wiped my last private installation of Windows and got it running with wine and Linux. And I got deeper into the rabbit hole. Today I make my living with programming and cyber security. Then I miss a tool, I just build it and publish it. Maybe someone needs it. People complained at a conference, that they used a Twitter picture wall. So I built a Mastodon picture wall as an alternative. I stumbled across hectocs as mathematical minigames. Soon I solved the ones I had on paper, so I built a website, to get more. Then the @hourlyhectoc so I could solve challenges while reading my fediverse timeline. I wanted to illuminate a piece of art. So I patched together some LEDs and an esp32. My girlfriend forgets to water her plants. So I built a detector with an esp and a sensor, that reminds her. And her plants live happily. My daughter loves sloths, so I built the @hourlyslothbot together with her, so she can share her passion.
This all started with me trying Linux I got on a bunch of CDs at a flea market as a child. Linux empowered me to decide about my digital life and the tools I want to use. If there is no solution, I like, I can build one.
So I'm very grateful I could experience Linux so early in my life and grow to the person I am now.
I love my disconnection with BG. I have used it for about 5 yrs and love it. I still don't know what I'm doing half the time, but what does it matter. The community is so large and helpful that I usually get there in the end. My top tip? Go Linux/ windows dual boot. See how long it is before you delete windowsπ
It taught me that I can want my computer to be the way I want it to be and the only obstacles between it being so are limits of my imagination and willingness to spend 5 hours tweaking until 3 am.
you may not know that I would have to remember my beginnings 40 ys ago. π€·ββοΈ Did it change much ? I earn my living now 40 ys without missing much
The only real changes I've needed to make going from Windows 10 to Linux Mint are the tools that I use to do my daily activities. A few tools have Linux versions, most I needed to find new tools to do what I used to do with Windows-specific tools. Like replacing Winamp with Clementine (VLC has a bug with icecast music streams). Finding Linux tools for VNC and RDP for driving remote systems. Things like that. My workflow is still the same, just the tools have changed.

Guix on the other hand was doing what was acceptable from what i asked.
They are not the same. Each distro is unique, Each windows distro is dead.
