SEGA and Creative Assembly officially announced Total War: PHARAOH today for release in October 2023, and as usual Feral Interactive will be doing their Linux and macOS ports.
I think this is fine, there's both an upfront cost to porting software and an ongoing maintenance cost. As Proton has improved, there have been diminishing returns from porting vs. just using Proton. I'm hoping this means they will test the game with Proton during development and ship it in a working state.
