Well this could be about to get interesting, as The Pokémon Company have actually released a statement in regards to all the speculation about Palworld amid many claims of copying Pokémon's homework.

I suspect this is a bit of a nothingburger - you can't patent a concept and I'm sure Nintendo is aware of this, but they felt like they had to respond to all the "fans" messaging them about this.

I would expect nothing to happen here.

apart from the guns part, this is obviously the Pokemon game people have been waiting for... they won't be able to prevent people to mod this now it is out there.

If Nintendo actually meant to do anything about Palworld, I suspect they would have done so when the trailer dropped.
Ultimately, I think they're kind of stuck because despite it being the best known, Pokemon is itself not terribly original.
