Ouch. People complain at times about Steam Deck game performance, but one of the new flagship Nintendo Switch games (Pokemon) struggles to keep 30FPS 😬

This is a game tailor made for the Switch 🤦‍♂️, most Steam Deck games use a translation layer…

Nintendo Switch: can’t even run Pokémon at 30FPS.

Steam Deck: can run even Cyberpunk 2077 pretty nicely

For the record: I own a Switch, and enjoy Pokémon a lot but it’s repeatedly showing how underpowered it is and in this case, for such a big title, it’s kind of inexcusable.

So glad the Steam Deck is a thing 🫡

it's still quite expensive though, hope there's more of them so the used ones will be sold with much much lower price

Especially embarrassing for Game Freak since other studios still squeeze some decent performance out of it. I mean Bayonetta 3 even got 60 FPS during battle segments and it didn’t look as terrible as the newest Pokémon.

Nintendo consoles were never meant to outperform competitors.

GameCube had much less power than Xbox and PS2, Wii didn’t even have HD output while that was already standard.

It's possible this has to be necessary to get Nintendo to move on from a system that's still massively profitable.

We really don't know what their executives are thinking, and current hardware is still from Iwata's time, when the company was run by an engineer.

Unless you know, you're located in #Australia... In which case, the Steam Deck is *not* a thing. #Linux #SteamDeck

honestly with how much better other games run on the switch, it seems very much like a gamefreak problem.. But also the switch is aging a lot, no doubt

gamefreak have really been dropping the ball for years, the pop in for pokemon is horrible, comparing it to games like xenoblade all 3 of them have much better draw distance for the enemies in the game along with better graphics and textures and it runs pretty decent as well

I only wish the Steam Deck fan wouldn’t be louder than the Switch, because currently it’s quite a lot louder, right?

huge 'Atari 2600: can't even run Pac-man properly, 1998 era PC: can run even Trespasser pretty nicely' energy

I think this is more gamefreak's fault. It's not like they didn't knew what to expect from the Switch hardware
in reply to Liam @ GamingOnLinux 🐧🎮

Let’s face it. It COULD run just fine in 60fps without lazy source code. On the switch - a dedicated hardware - it’s very realistic to do this if you really want to.

Steam Deck:
Can't work out the logistics to ship to #Australia.

Nintendo Switch:
Ships new models to Australia almost immediately.

And don't give me the 'money' argument - a quick search shows that #ValveSoftware is worth about US$10 billion, whilst #Nintendo is worth about US$13 billion, so it's not *that* much of a difference... Our #gaming market is also larger than many of the countries the #SteamDeck is currently available in now.

yeah i have only played cyberpunk on my steam deck and its so good like i am in a episode of black mirror lol

That has more to do with Gamefreaks inability than anything else. Their game salways struggle technically. Also a new Swtch is coming soonish....

Game Freak really needs to do something about their engine, or start producing Pokémon games on a different one.. but something tells me Nintendo wants new Pokémon games fsster than they have time to do such a feat. It's quite sad if that's true.

I think there's a very large contingent of players who either don't notice, aren't sure what they're noticing, or simply don't care. Especially if the bulk of their gaming life has been Pokémon on handhelds through the years.

this is on GameFreak, they haven't been able to produce a game that runs well on Nintendo hardware in several generations.
in reply to Liam @ GamingOnLinux 🐧🎮

IMO this just means that Pokemon Company have done a bad job with this installment. Previous Pokemon games were fine, other more obviously demanding games are fine. It's limited hardware yes, but many have shown in the past it can go pretty far.

@gamingonlinux The last few games I played on Switch (Xenoblade 3, Nier, Bayonetta 3) look like they're 2 generations ahead of any Pokemon game released on Switch and run fine. The problem is the developers, they're notoriously bad at what they do and the pace at which they release games doesn't help (I mean, they released 3 games in 1 year). Apparently for some reason these devs even reject assistance from Nintendo so even if they were made for PC the games would still be broken.
