Think if we had patents for books, we would just have one crime investigating detective book.

Guessing they were waiting for that to conclude before launching an almost inevitable strike against Palworld

No idea how expensive the lawsuits are in Japan. Or if the winner gets to transfer it's legal cost onto the loser.*
*Which is fairly common outside of USA.
