Your post isn't pulling in the image, so boosting it probably isn't going to DDOS your system as strongly as it might.

Were you testing because of today's post on itsfoss.org saying "Please don't boost this on Mastodon"?
in reply to RDN

@rdnielsen yes, and so far from this post being multiple times more popular than the majority of their posts.... there's literally no issue

@rdnielsen The "Mastodon effect" is a real thing, but its impact will depend heavily on how a site is set up. I'm surprised a news site would struggle with it.

Discussion on the Mastodon GitHub here: https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/issues/23662 A fix seems to be currently planned for 4.4.0.

You need to write some click-bait, my man.

You can have these for free..

Number 11 is the best!

this is because of that bit from It's FOSS? I hope you can conclusively show this is FUD.

I think who boosts you is more important than how many. A single boost from someone follows by users on thousands of servers is going to do more than 100 boosts from single-digits. That being said, I've done my part twice in case timezones matter too 😎

they didn't describe anything that should make a static site sweat at all. The scale they described is laughable. Their chokepoint is probably some overburdened and optimized comment database or something.

As @jeffgerstmann mentioned in the podcast, people have discovered they made a whole game series based on the TV series. Shocking. 🙂

I love that on mastodon, people asking for boosts is not a thinly veiled attempt at manipulating the algorithm for more future engagement like it is on other platforms.

Because there is no such algorithm. I love it

Yeah starting to think that the "DDoS issue" is less of a problem with Mastodon itself and more of a problem with the sites themselves
