Tardigrades have survived every mass extinction on Earth since they evolved about a 1/2 billion years ago. There are ~1,300 known species.

And millions of years from now, they won’t even notice we’re gone.

I can almost hear them exclaim, “So long and thanks for the rotifers.”

These mofos can float in space at absolute zero temperatures, through solar radiation and not give two fucks. Pretty cool little buggers.

if anything can survive being blasted into Space and then land on a planet in a nearby star system hundreds of thousands of years later it'll be those guys.
Or maybe those organisms that live deep in rocks.....
in reply to Sheril Kirshenbaum

I'm 100% sure that they give zero fucks about us. Which is exactly what they should do.

Hopefully none *in* my water bottle...

They might notice we're gone - they might write epic poetry about all of the species they have seen come and go...you don't know!

Followed a tardigrade account on the old twitter @tardigradopedia that I still miss…

"Tardigrades have survived every mass extinction on Earth since they evolved about a 1/2 billion years ago."

It's frankly starting to look more than a little suspicious.

Why are Tardigrades not at the center of an Earth religion? They are the perfect being to be worshiped, if one feels the need for that type of behavior.

I really should make this my new Slack avitar. It says "I was here before you were born, and I'll be here after you are gone"

That thing is both super-cute and absolutely 🤬ing terrifying all at the same time.
in reply to Sheril Kirshenbaum

Unfortunately, you could say dozens of years from now they won't even notice we're gone.

Is it me, or does that not look like a small robot cosplaying as a Jawa?
