There is less need to have to use the Terminal in Linux for everyday use (documents, email, web browsing etc) but there are also so many ways to customise the desktop.

I use vanilla GNOME with almost no customizations. The only extensions I use are Legacy (GTK3) Theme Scheme Auto Switcher and TopHat.
