TBF it's not a simple problem.. you lost the root drive, so linux dropped into a shell to give you a chance to fix it if you can (a lesser OS would simply have bluescreened).
If you're not able to fix it, then nothing linux could do could make that process more user friendly, you're probably looking at a minimum reinstall and possibly hardware replacement.
