I wonder @Gargron if part of it is "starting over" following people/empty feeds? Would having a trending posts feed be helpful for discovery like some apps have?

But i think it should also be in the single column

Do you use any 3rd party themes perhaps? That "search" tab/icon should be an 'Explore' on mstdn both on single col as in mobile layout 😮
