People should have the option to choose their OS. At least the option to buy the hardware without Windows.
In the past I bought Dell notebooks, which offered a pre-installed Ubuntu. Some drivers where available only as *.deb packages, which didn't help me as a Fedora user. (But waiting for the next Fedora release helped as usual).
But I glad if those option exists for new and inexperienced Linux users.
if we want it to be preinstalled we need a distro that is almost impossible to break even someone on ubuntu client would use sudo for commmon tasks which could desensitise them to the use of something that can do irreversible damage. So more preinstalled yes as it woulf increase driver support by companies but the general public likely wont change to linux
With Lenovo and Dell removing their Linux preinstalled options this year, and many laptops not officially supporting Linux at all, I think this needs to change. I hope Framework's event on the 25th of this month is good!
There's a lot Android TV boxes are ending up being e-waste because they are no longer receiving updates. I once attempted to install Armbian on it, and it's pretty impressive for a linux device that runs on a 5W power adapter, yet not fast. In some cases, reusing these e-waste can eliminate those Pi SBCs. But NGL unlocking & debricking the boot loader is terrible.
So at least, more devices should have to open the firmware and bootloader once it reach EOL, as corporate responsibility act for their (e)-waste issues.
