exciting news, but I wonder if apple's transition to arm helped with this trend
in reply to Liam @ GamingOnLinux 🐧🎮

Now if only they could fix steamwebhelper so that it doesn't chew 100% cpu in the background and prevent Steam from opening random windows ***WHILE I'M IN THE MIDDLE OF A FREAKIN' GAME***.

That would be a real achievement

Even more impressive: this is happening *all the while* Apple has been pushing for "Game Porting Toolkit". (their own Wine-based framework with their own D3Dmetal translation layer; Proton-/Crossover-like).

Speaks great about the level of polishing that Valve has done on the SteamOS experience.

I've gotten almost all my friends to get steam decks. Between the bragging I can game in my bed and actually seeing it in action everyone I know thinks about getting one now.
in reply to Liam @ GamingOnLinux 🐧🎮

Sometimes I find myself thinking how much bigger the number of users on Linux would be if people actively participated in hardware survey. It doesn't enter my head that there are more active "Steam Decks" than Linux desktops with Steam installed.

@eddiecsilva
Everyone please do not take these numbers seriously. Valve owns the website, the data is from Valve, it’s only Valve collecting your data.

This is the same thing as Elon making up numbers because it’s only coming from Elon’s website. STOP THE Lies.

And @gamingonlinux you need to report the source of the data, the source is only in Valve corp, only Valve. We can not confirm anything else but Valve claims such numbers exist.

@firecat @eddiecsilva

1) calm down and don’t reply to me like that or get blocked
2) well DUH, it’s obvious the data is from Valve the article is specifically talking about Steam dummy

in reply to Liam @ GamingOnLinux 🐧🎮

The clickbait article you copy isn't helping with your case nor did you say anything about data it collected. Let me reminder that i also had to do this too when Steam Deck sale went up with again only Valve being the only source.

Don't be like those newspapers that just copy cats their way and links to the source that links to one company.

in reply to Firecat

@firecat I didn’t copy anything, you’re really not making any sense, so I’m just going to mute you because your attitude stinks
in reply to Firecat

@firecat
The difference is that elon has an incentive to lie an can easily be proven wrong...
The data that valve gets from us is purpose bound and sold to game devs at best but afaik not to third parties. If you have different numbers feel free to call out Valve but otherwise you are connecting dots that are not even on the same paper and right on the edge of false accusations....
@eddiecsilva @gamingonlinux
in reply to Ponder Stibbons 🇧🇷🇩🇪

@blackcoffeerider @eddiecsilva Valve has lied, we have lawsuits filed proving Valve lied. Do not shame away from the truth, the lawyers are fighting Valve and they are on the side of the government, not corporate interests. Valve owns the data, they own the software, they own the website and they own the employees who works for them. You have nothing but baseless accusations from the community or newspaper.

Woah thats very cool, as a linux user i am super happy 😁 hopefully better compatability comes into the future

@Lamdarer @Seyker no one should be using HoloISO or any tiny distro like it, it's just asking for problems
in reply to Liam @ GamingOnLinux 🐧🎮

Let’s say it this way. With dropping 32bit support in Catalina, most of my library of Indy games on Steam is now unusable in macOS. Why using it then for gaming? Let’s see what’s happening with porting kit.
in reply to Liam @ GamingOnLinux 🐧🎮

It might also be related to it being summer more people being outside and on the go.
There are less people gaming on a Desktop PC in Summer. I think Linux bigger market share in the Steam Survey often correlated with summer.( As well as certain events like the release of proton or the steam deck).
in reply to Liam @ GamingOnLinux 🐧🎮

It seems that all of the big AAA title releases I've been interested in lately have been available on linux (steam/proton) day one. I'd say the Steam Deck had the desired effect of making devs pay attention to linux, and I'm here for it. I finally deleted my windows partition last year and have not missed it at all.
in reply to Liam @ GamingOnLinux 🐧🎮

Gotta look forward to the new excuses for not supporting Linux by game devs. They always supported MacOS. And claimed Linux share was too low. Now they support MacOS and Linux has a higher share.

Bullshit coming through in 3...2...1...
