Latest comic: It's profoundly weird to witness what is happening in the US as someone who came of age at the end of the Cold War.

Ye gods, I remember both those music videos very well... The Scorps' "Wind of Change" is now stuck in a loop inside my brain.

@morgan I was just reading about that on Wikipedia. Interesting theory, it seems, though denied by the Scorpions.

see this is what I don't understand. Every computer game, Clancy book, and action movie showed Russians as our adversary... And the GOP expects me to just forget all that programming because Trump says. They need to go listen to Reagan's speeches again.

no lies detected.

but i must say, GOP corruption has a long history. my parents HATED reagan & his BS
i was also a child of this era, & i remember well the anita hill hearings, Iran Contra affair
& Reagan's response to AIDS
(my uncle was in the SF scene at that time)
underneath our veneer of exceptionalist propaganda, there's a very deep rot

so maybe not entirely weird for me,
i just didn't wanna live thru this period where we had to face up to who we really are, & pay the price.

It's worse for someone like me who came of age during the Civil Rights marches. Americans died for rights that Trump and his henchfolk are trying to take away.

It took us two years to get Agnew and Nixon out of the White House after the landslide in 1972, but we did it. Trump had no such landslide.

@bernicecbc While in high school in the mid-late 1980s, I was convinced there'd be a nuclear war before the year 2000. …and now this. <long digital sigh>

The future turned out this way, because generations born during the longest peace era in human history started to take democracy and human rights for granted. Meanwhile fascists have been working nonstop behind the scenes.

We can still turn this around, but it's gonna be a lot of work. Fast.
