For me: Ubuntu is the Windows of Linux-Distributions. Maybe it's just bad luck, but with Ubuntu I have so many issues like kernel panics on clean installs or issues in VMs where others like Debian, Mint, Alma are working fine out of the box..
I think Ubuntu was just one of the first which was the most user friendly and easy to install for a while, especially in the early 2010s and thus many people who just needed to use Linux quickly for work gravitated towards it. Then other distros followed suit but by this point Ubuntu was already quite dominant as a part of Linux
