It may be a good idea to invest in a laptop stand. Laptops have poor airflow when they're placed flush on a table.
Cooling pads offer marginally better airflow at a much higher price. But if money isn't a problem, a forced draught cooler like KLIM Mistral or Everest really does the job.
(Yes, I compile on Gentoo and I had to buy a proper cooler)
