Linux will attract huge amount of users, if it focuses providing good software for graphics i.e. illustration, animation and video editing.
As of now, currently available options are below par against the adobe stack.

Do you mean Linux the kernel, or GNU/Linux the OS? 😉😂

From my experience, even tho Linux might be too complicated for adults not intrested in computers, it is excelent for children. Especially GNOME and it's apps. Hard to get lost, hard to break, easy to do everything you need. And my siblings prove it.

Finding a desktop environment that looks almost identical to Windows aero glass has been hard.

It's not a huge problem, but it is really the only problem I have with Linux.

linux needs naming conventions and rules for packages over all distros, so dependencies work everywhere flawless.

There are too many distros. The overall quality and feature depth would be higher if more people would work on less distros.
Nobody needs
"New ubuntu based distro with a theme change and a small feature addon". People should submit fixes and improvements instead of making their own useless distro.

Canonical's #Snaps have a valid use case - #autoupdate for a large fleet of machines. Does #Flatpak offer a similar feature?

GUI configuration tools are not evil. Should have more of them.

I started with system configs using DIP switches, and jumpers, then autoexec_bat, config_sys, and win_ini, even faffed about deep in the Windows registry.

Not saying it needs to be 100% GUI, à la F̵i̵s̵h̵e̵r̵-̵P̵r̵i̵c̵e̵ MacOS. Simple, text-based config files offer immense granularity. As long as that option is there, cool.

something along the lines of Windows' "vcredist" would go a long way in helping long term functionality of applications

You can be a Linux user and almost never open a terminal window!

AppImages are much better than both flatpak and snap combined.

I like simple names for my applications, like "Files" for my files, not Dolphin, Thunar or PCManFM. Like, come on! Who came up with that last one and though it was a good idea?

There's nothing wrong with trying to make a profit off of your software.
Mozilla are not your friends.
Being patient with Windows users who want to get into Linux is a good thing.
GNOME sucks.

Your average Linux desktop environment is more user-friendly and more consistent than Windows.

The only advantage the Windows desktop environment has nowadays is that your average person has decades of experience using it, and making a paradigm shift is hard.

If the Linux community had broadly adopted the hot foxgirl (Xenia) over the penguin (Tux) for the brand/logo, "The year of the linux desktop" would have arrived a decade ago.
