Microsoft - keep your filthy hands off Valve, leak shows MSFT would buy Valve https://www.gamingonlinux.com/2023/09/microsoft-keep-your-filthy-hands-off-valve/

Considering GabeN's history with Microsoft I can't help but wonder how hard he laughed when he heard they wanted to buy Valve

Valve is entirely private IIRC so the only way that's happening is if they make an offer Gabe can't refuse - and he's got way too much self respect for that.

Gee, it'd be nice to have a DOJ that gave a flying fuck about antitrust that would stop shit like this...

We don't even need new laws; they just need to use the ones currently on the books!

I might have been reading @pluralistic's new book, The Internet Con, about almost exactly these problems... ๐Ÿ˜… Fucking Robert Bork and his ahistorical interpretation of antitrust law. It's a big reason for why we can't have nice things.

I mean - I would buy Valve goven the opportunity. That in itself isn't saying that much. We can just hope Valve never sells.

I mean - do childrens toys count? But no. I just many big entities would be interested obviously. We just can hope Valve doesnt sell to anyone.

Honestly, money does talk but GabeN is only going to hear jokes. Microsoft is just insanely overreaching by saying they want to buy Valve. If they did, this could have detrimental effects on Steam/Steam Deck as it's hard to say what Microsoft would do to them.
in reply to Liam @ GamingOnLinux ๐Ÿง๐ŸŽฎ

I don't think Valve would agree to being bought though I don't know how these thing go. It seems that if they throw enough money they can buy whatever they want
in reply to Liam @ GamingOnLinux ๐Ÿง๐ŸŽฎ

The only way Valve would accept this is if GabeN gets to be the new owner(and I don't mean just CEO, but sole/majority shareholder of the company). Otherwise, fat chance of it ever happening.
