Gotta love Valve for what looks to be another original controller. The first one was a bit weird to use, but full of good ideas, I'm excited to know more about the next one for sure!

The controller looks ugly as hell but if it's comfortable and works who cares.

I really hope they keep their "take the blueprints and fix it if you want it" philosophy that they had with the SteamDeck.

I am curious to see if they release an Index 2 or something. I want to try VR but Index current price for a 5 year old VR its a nogo. And I want something without Meta and that won't hive me headaches to play with in Linux. I guess will have to wait a bit longer 😃

about once a year I dust off my steam controller, attempt to use it for a few hours, and the rage-quit it into the closet for another cycle... Maybe this one will be better... maybe?

I'll get it, I love my original Steam Controller. This doesn't look as comfortable (it seems smaller), but Valve always surprises with ergonomics.

We’ll have to wait for the size and thickness, and the angle of the grips, but this will probably not work for me. Symmetrical sticks placed in the middle of the controller, with touchpads on the way where my fat hands will likely activate them all the time…

Sounds like a recipe for thumb and wrist pain for me personally :/

@thelinuxEXP When you look at your hands though, your thumbs naturally rest where the sticks are, so it might not be as bad as you think

@thelinuxEXP The layout looks quite similiar to the Steam Deck so I guess it'll be a matter of how you feel about that and the minor tweaks they've made like having angled track pads

@BrodieOnLinux The deck is fine, because the grips are horizontal and straight, and the sticks very close to the sides of the device, so the thumb rotation is natural.
On that controller, it seems like the opposite

@thelinuxEXP I can see that as well, I think all we can do is wait and see what actual hands on results are like

@BrodieOnLinux Haha yeah, we’ll see. Ergonomics isn’t an exact science; and doesn’t always work for everyone: AirPods fall out the ears of a fair few people, the PS4 controller was a nightmare for some, and some think the Xbox one controller isn’t good, the Duke managed to get into production, etc..

It can be an awesome controller for a bunch of people, and a nightmare for others 😀

@BrodieOnLinux @thelinuxEXP I prefer the layout of the PS4 controller to the xbox style, asymmetry doesn't work for me, and the Steam Controller 2 design looks similar to the PS4 but the sticks, buttons and dpad are too high up imho, if I had designed the controller, they would be about 50% lower (all of them) - but then I'm no designer so what do I know 🤣

@thelinuxEXP I’m just happy there even are symmetrical sticks. There’s the Deck, some Ayn devices and maybe 1 Chinese telescope controller for your phone who do this over the Xbox style layout.

Dépends on how inclined the grips are. They look kinda straight down to me, which means the wrists won’t be rotated in the right portion for the thumbs to lay naturally on the sticks, but we’ll see!
There’s also the issue that my thumbs often bump into one another with symmetrical sticks on a PS controller, because the sticks are too close
