If Linux outlives Torvalds, and I believe that it will, that will be proof that it's not actually based on one guy's preferences. That it's genuinely, sincerely a *community* project.
I want Linux to live a good long time, but I will literally sleep better knowing that there's a plan in place.
I am surprised something like this was not already in place. No one, not even Linus, should be a potential single point of failure. Things happen in life, a contingency / succession plan should have been in place years ago as a just in case.
