I tried this app and loved it except for two things: 1) the limited features unless you pay a subscription, and 2) the fact that there is no desktop or web version to use/sync to, unless you use Google Tasks, which still results in a less-than-satisfactory experience. Otherwise, I love the overall design, features and functions of the app.

currently using this with a CalDAV back end and it's pretty good, I wish there were fewer options though.

if I ever get to the point of doing Android development I'd be tempted to fork it and make a "simple" version that does what I want (replicate Google reminders in a way that's compatible with a CalDAV back end) and nothing else. add it to the list I guess...
