You probably saw it, but there's also a neat wall of books at The Last Bookstore with a circular hole that makes for very cute pictures of 1 or 2 people.
Another bookstore I just remembered for our Midwestern friends: The Book Loft of German Village in Columbus, OH. A maze of themed book rooms packed floor-to-ceiling on every wall, and even cute garden space outside.
while you’re in the neighborhood, check out the murals on the 2nd floor of the LA library, the Biltmore Tea Room, the Bradbury atrium, pupusas at the Grand Central Market, & the funicular up Angel’s Flight, all just a few blocks away from the Last Bookstore!
I’ve lived in Southern California my entire life and have never heard of this place. And I’ve been to Tattered Cover (Denver) and City of Books (Portland) multiple times. Then again, downtown LA is an area I almost never go to.
I heard about that bookshop and took a trip there especially for it. A pretty incredible bookshop but too hot for me. Plus I prefer not used books and they have a lot of used books if memory serves me right. As a bibliophile I both enjoyed and was appalled at the tunnel. It's sacrilegious.
To those who want to move there be aware that LA parking is very bad and that area is not so nice either. The streets there are pretty awful too - some one lane streets. Not as nice as you think.
