that is the power of foss, even if it starts small, it can continually grow and through the ability to fork the chances of it suddenly going away is significantly lower than any proprietary product.
Also it prevents it from growing like cancer that no one can stop, because everyone can operate on it and on every version of it (, so e.g. on a version without an unwanted feature).
