So true..... I think that's why so many of us are ao bitter. We once many decades ago admired Microsoft. But decades of unethical business practices, bad software and outright abusive behavior has taught us they are Sauron. The world experiences progress DESPITE Microsoft, not because of them. They, apple, google and all big IT are malicious drains on society, with dark futures ahead.
like why do they have to collect data about users not just with Windows but any other company, Ofc its a business model but we can pay instead of giving up our data.
Abused by Microsoft is probably more precise. Forcing upgrades, charging for everything, ESPECIALLY their fuckups. Subscriptions. Renewals. Upgrades. Lawsuits. "Piracy Operations". And the list goes on.
for me it was actually a fear of getting locked into Apple's hardware ecosystem after learning the history of macbook design failures (exasperated by how difficult they are to repair). I never really used Windows until I was nearly an adult, and even then it was only for brief moments at a time
Not true. I left Windows, when Windows XP was a few years old and excellent. I left Windows because of Ubuntu, which ran well on my machines. Until today!
Not only it consumed machines resources unneccessarily but power consumption for those extra threads usage. Unable to render bigger scenes thanks to all the bloat. Since using linux my scene layout have grown more bigger, dense and never felt a problem. And i got all the same apps to work with even unity engine. Making an OS is one thing but maintaining it is another and the crucial one.
Not true for me, but I might be a special case - I was using Unix from the late 1970s, at work, had an Apple computer at home for a while (which I got at a more reasonable price due to knowing someone who worked at the company at a time when they wanted to get rid of their inventory of last year's model), and then switched to Linux. I never owned a Windows machine and have used one - a laptop - on only a few occasions just to take notes at a meeting.
I jumped before I was pushed but yep, that's it. That's the reason. Whine-doze greed (shift to subscription) & the start of the enshittification crusade that they have been on & continue.
I’m an old Unix bit-head so I picked up Linux as a way to run a Unix-like at home. My first Linux distro was Yellow Dog Linux for the PowerPC architecture! Ran it on my PowerMac 6100.
(1/2) I was dropped into the Microsoft world from the age of 11. It was the OS choice of my school. It was the OS choice of my dad who paid for the home computer. It was the go-to OS for learners who could easily pick up the point and click GUI interface. It's the card I was dealt at an age where I accepted it. It was never a problem.
It was only six years ago when I felt the urge to try Linux and the hugely improved desktop environments. (Continued...)

I started using Linux some 25 years ago - out of curiosity.
Today I know it is today not as big as a step from Win11 to Linux then.

But I'm a former #Windows user who was driven to #Linux by #Microsoft's lousy business ideas ...

And hence, I use Linux Mint since 5 years.
So… it is true, I assume!
