I've read (on wikipedia, but saw other mentions of "primitive dogs") that the Shiba and other Japanese dogs are the closest genetically to the common ancestor shared by wolves and dogs... Maybe our sometimes fox-looking dog is getting closer now... But hopefully she'll keep considering the Silkies and our indoor cats as members of the pack...
