Hmmm...

Strong similarities indeed. However, in music theory, it's not always that simple. Great video by Adam Neely, about one of the recent controversis:
in reply to Muse

@Michael Keukert I'm not saying it's plagiarism. BUT Miller-Heidke would have been on the radio regularly when Billie was growing up. I think she did take inspiration from "The Last Day on Earth". By being quite so close Eilish doesn't come off as terribly original.

If Eilish writes in ways that seem more like copying than hommage, I'm likely to become less interested in her. The fact that she uses the same vocal quality as Miller-Heidke is the icing on this cake. She needed to find ways to make her song more her own.

BTW cool link!

in reply to Muse

I never came across Miller-Heidke before, but will certainly check out more songs. Thanks for bringing her up.
in reply to Muse

By-the-way, Bill Monroe had a tune he titled "My Last Days On Earth".

Somewhere I have a video I shot of David Grisman playing it, but right now this is all I can find...

in reply to Muse

Eilish has always sounded like that, though.

Incidentally, I found Kate's vocal quality hard to stomach, before comparing, so I apparently did not notice a similarity.

in reply to Muse

but Billie is USian, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Billie_Eilish, unless this is another Billie? still n all, she maybe might have heard our Kate on the radio - i dunno if Kate was all that popular in the US in the early days, maybe..in 2019 one of her song speaked at #59 in US charts https://www.officialcharts.com/artist/55651/kate-miller-heidke/ so maybe maybe?
#59
in reply to Muse

That Barbie song was somewhat unique in the Eilish catalogue from what I know. (which may not be much)
in reply to Muse

Maybe not... 😀

Oh, playing around with the stereo like Pink Floyd... that Bond song is set to slowly rotate from left to right and back again.
in reply to Muse

about the Bond number ("Hans Zimmer, 62, the iconic soundtrack composer (Thelma & Louise, Inception, the Dark Knight trilogy) who wrote the film’s score and added string orchestration to “No Time to Die.” You may be correct about his influences, @Andreas Geisler)
in reply to Muse

Zimmer also did the Dune OST. Oh, gotta listen to that again. I love that primal energy he got in it.
in reply to Muse

Bond songs need to adhere to rather strict rules. They want to prevent a Live and let die Desaster again
in reply to Muse

I went and listened to it and it sounded OK, and then it got past the first "bond trombone bit" and oh no.
in reply to Muse

@clarice overhere For some strange reason I thought she was Australian. She has toured here quite a lot, and found inspiration for her big Grammy Award winning album in Sydney's pedestrian lights.

in reply to Muse

meh, an easy enough confusion, Muse, esp considering her popularity over here. Still n all it doesnt disqualify the ponder that Kate's music may have entered her childhood ears - her folks were (are?) into all kinds of music, it seems, so why not Kate?

Haha! i ❤ the crossing-lights story xD

in reply to Muse

And what about that 'I'm just Ken' number at the Oscars last night? Wow!
in reply to Muse

in my confusion i thought there may have been two Billies xD

Mattel must be chuffed that their ad went so far, even if it didnt get Best Piccy.
Margot in black ultra-expense looked gorgeous and the Godzilla Minis winning Visual Effects was a hoot!
in reply to Muse

and very sensible of Margot to change into her swim wear with gold towel for the after-party (drink spills). Practical.
in reply to Muse

@Kenny Chaffin I haven't seen much of the Academy Awards ceremony. BUT the Ken bit is up on YouTube and a REAL HOOT!

@clarice overhere I tracked down the mini-godzillas. HILARIOUS!

in reply to Muse

i forget which telly show (Comedy Company?) had running skits of Skeletor and Ken with his little plastic mound (which always got a mention). Skelly always got the girl (Babs) - mostly due to Skelly's physique and charm, and Ken's little plastic mound.
in reply to Muse

I would so watch the movie: Adventures of Weird Barbie!
in reply to Muse

@clarice overhere that’s strange. Not haha strange that Billie Eilish has broken in on the popular American scene, with her brother close by. Strange. She also was mistaken by myself as being heard Australian. 😀
in reply to Muse

@Adam Blewett i think she was riding on "strange" in the early days - a slightly tamer version of Grimes, perhaps (or maybe i was just listening to the two at the time, so they merged) - noice, differen, unusual ;))
