Malaria used to be endemic and not uncommon in the United States as far north as Chicago, before being eradicated by large-scale public health campaigns involving the draining of mosquito breeding sites and pesticide spraying.
This resurgence in Florida really wants to happen. The disease and the insect vector are both happy here, and I really wish people appreciated the scale of government involvement required to keep Malaria out.
