Oat containers work pretty well for mushroom growing. Small enough to be manageable and good at keeping the moisture in.

Nice!

Can I ask a beginner question: where do you get the seeded substrate? What do you put *in* the oatmeal containers?

@slothrop i add hardwood chips and soybean hulls ("master's mix"), boiled first to sterilize and add moisture, and inoculate with grain spawn. You can buy the grain spawn or make your own with a culture. I do the latter because I like working with fungi, but most people seem to prefer the former.

ok thanks!

I’m at the skill level of “fucked up a perfectly good growing kit because I didn’t read the instructions”

@slothrop it can be very tricky. I have a long list of grow kits that I have also destroyed. In my experience the moisture level seems to be the most important thing for fruiting.
