Constructing a biosphere-scale model of the evolutionary history of metabolism based on >12,000 biochemical reactions, the authors show that a bottleneck in purine synthesis prevents metabolic expansion from geochemical precursors.

@barrygoldman1 not sure i completely understand myself. It's dense material for sure, but this group does great work and they are trying to address a pretty important question

thanks. methods section shows it is all computer simulations. no wetlab, so ... maybe.
