@ntnsndr Element is actively promoting its services to police and state security.

While you can have an independent Matrix server, in practice there's a lot of centralization around the Element client, matrix.org, and Element Matrix Services.

@ntnsndr Yeah, in that use case, you're probably okay.

But for most people, using Matrix means downloading Element and getting an account on matrix.org. And I feel I have to discourage that.
