ask anyone and they will tell you that Solenopsis invicta, the imported fire ant, is not a polymorphic species: there’s no such thing as a “fire ant major” and yet consider the variation in head size found within a single colony
I avoided this book for a long time because I thought any huge tome about fire ants would just be one long pest control guide (and I’m not really interested in reading about that) it turns out the author is an unapologetic fan of fire ants. He legitimately *loves* them and writes about them with gleeful (sometimes slightly maniacal) enthusiasm. I’m happy to enthusiastically recommend this book.
