If the full scale of Andromeda was visible to the naked eye, our entire mythology would have been drastically different. Planets-shmamets, the big oval thing with a bright centre is obviously a major god.

Is there another spiral galaxy much smaller (farther away) just to the right of it? If so, what galaxy?

How did they get it so big? Or is it taken from a telescope really far away?

The idea that we are looking 2 million years into the past is very cool. The fact that the galaxy is tilted from our point of view makes the left side (in this picture) about 150,000 years older than the right side.
