Delighted to announce that our phase 1 safety trial of a natural product cocktail for topical antimicrobial applications is in print. Fab to work with Julie Bruce, Blessing Oyedemi and Nick Parsons via Warwick's Clinical Trials Unit https://nature.com/articles/s41598-022-22700-4 #ancientbiotics

This trial stemmed from several years of work on an early medieval #infection remedy known as Bald's eyesalve. We now have confirmation that it's really worth developing further for testing as an #antimicrobial #antibiotic preparation for wound treatment. Thanks Diabetes UK for funding!

omg so cool to hear that this work has progressed. I remember talking about it with @Defectivebrayne on #microtwjc so many years ago. Those discussions were one of the moments that really brought me closer with the wider academic community and showed me the value of the birbsite and online conversation. Plus i'm just tickled with the idea of resurrecting old medicine.

Tagging our reboot of the journal club @MicrobioJC

@danwchan @Defectivebrayne @MicrobioJC Thank you! We just submitted an application for the next big grant on this project, so fingers crossed we can keep up momentum.
