I feel this way about Opencore, but I'm not sure if it's able to boot a Linux install that doesn't have its own bootloader. Haven't really looked into it. Initial setup might still be a hurdle for a lot of people, but when it works, it does a good job.

grub failed on me this morning. Then I prepared a chroot usb stick and all of a sudden it booted fine again. Kinda funny you posted that today.

Yup. I have been a fan since multibooting an old mac book pro a decade ago.

grub lost me years ago when I couldn't set up seamless plymouth boot screens. also, secure boot + tpm + luks setup is easiest with the efistub approach.
