You could use GTK4 without using libadwaita and it has the added benefit of hardware acceleration

@odoben Without a doubt but a lot of apps are being built around it leading to them looking very out of place outside of GNOME

fair enough. Originally GTK meant Gimp ToolKit. So it is basically returning back what it was.
