Discounting the price disclosure, the merch plugs aren't even real plugs so much as it's self-deprecating humor.
And there was certainly no lying (or at least a knowing attempt to), since they even admitted (AND SHOWN) that the emails didn't get sent to the right recipient in the first place. They owned up to that.
The important part of the whole situation is that they needed to take some time off to reevaluate themselves...
