I'd guess that Everything Everywhere All At Once might blow Chicago out of the water. I'd be shocked to hear otherwise.

I suspect that #EEAAO has improved on that number considerably.

Considering how few words men speak in real life on a day to day basis (compared to women) this seems stupid.

For those aware of the issue, one of the things Motherland: Fort Salem did was invert the crowd ratios.

I.e. unless forced otherwise movie crowds are 4 men to 1 woman. (Check out any 80s movie like Ghostbusters.) They reversed those ratios and it was so weird feeling something out of place but then spotting it.

So are these just movies personally picked from your collection? Because I am sure there are a bunch of movies where women have large roles.

Using the Hollywood Foreign press as a litmus for what is good is problematic. In the last decade I could probably name other movies that were not nominated that had better story arcs. A lot with female protagonists i.e. more screen time. We need better writers that can create great stories where imperfect women and men succeed in spite of their flaws. Now if you will excuse me I'm going to go replay Horizon Zero Dawn again.

I don't think this had been made to be deliberate...but it is concerning and needs to be addressed, changed and give woman more screen time.

Did they run the data any further back, do you know? I'd love to see the screwball era compared to now (hell, this is one place where even Gone With The Wind would look good...)

The exact opposite of real life.

I think I recall a study that showed that, when faced with a crowd shot, it had to be like 70- 80% men before people considered it "evenly split". Asking for snap judgements on gender splits (visually or listening to people speak) showed the same - - men and women both thought an equal split was tilted towards women, up until about 70/30 or 80/20.

Interesting... (in a negative sort of way).

That's because Florida won't allow women to talk about their periods. Without a prohibition, that's all we would rather discuss, month after month after month.
