hello british users on this webbed site. please explain to me why the speed camera sign depicts an 1800s bellows camera.

do not make the same mistake that my notoriously british friend lucy did in assuming that this is a box camera with the lens facing towards the viewer with a mounting bracket. this is a bellows camera facing sideways with the lens pointed at the road. read em and weep.

it really bugs me when they're the wrong way up and the rail is on the top not the bottom

The nation itself is mentally stuck in the 19th century..so why not it's iconography?

I think a lot of icons/emoji are based on obsolete technology. Consider the "save" icon in most programs still being 💾 , or a "phone" icon :phone_receiver: on most smart phones. Still, I'd be more likely to recognize that as a camera icon if they used something like 📸 .
