We are roleplaying marine electricians this month, look on my works, ye mighty, and despair!

@trregeagle It's in a sailboat cabin 😀

@jrgd_ Live 12v, we don't have a cover yet, but we'll fabricate one at some point.

shouldnt be too painful at night looking for the switch 👉⚡️… you could tape it in the meantime. I like the tidiness of the wiring; i like the idea it makes your boat like a giant floating computer.
in reply to Jrgd

@jrgd_ it's 12v, even if you touch both negative/positive you don't get a shock, you don't even feel it because the resistance of your body is greater than that of the wires

silly me 🤦🏻‍♂️ I had never rrelated this with resistance; always been cautious with 24v battery car and the sparks, and had assumed 12v is just half the pain XD weird made up science

Pino's portside lighting system is now connected! We're starting to get the hang of this.

Partly rewired the instruments and electrical systems running inside the mast, found some of the hackiest works from the previous owners.

Haha boats, apartments, houses, it doesn’t mater, there will be someone at some point doing the local variant of redneck engineering. :honk_peace:

Connected up the remaining of the mast, compass, stern lights to the breaker. The lighting system, which was the most complicated system on the boat, is nearly done.

are these terminal blocks normal for marine wiring? is there a cover??
in reply to tehn

@tehn yeah they're pretty much as good as it gets for our means, sometimes they have little shields on top.

Are you boxing or otherwise protecting those junction points?
in reply to wrack

@ccohanlon we'll try and make plates for them. They're pretty much out of the way, but just in case we'd like to fabricate little covers that we can screw on top so nothing rests up on them directly.

I thought that on boats you'd use something like these with gel inside and easily inspectable, instead of open air junctions...
